The Cotton Tree Spring Party 2023

Tigers on the loose – and a T rex too

The Fellow Travellers’ monthly lunch expanded into a wonderful spring party last week, when we came together to enjoy each other’s company, eat great food, and welcome an honoured guest from Australia. Janet Gilbert, a favourite with all who knew her, had been our general manager for almost three years. She returned to find the usual joyful spirit of the Cotton Tree when members step out of their difficult lives, forget about the Home Office for a few hours, and come together with food, drink, music and laughter. There were new members as well as old, and several who had taken the decisive step towards a settled life by receiving leave to remain. We rejoiced for them.

There was a hint of danger in the air, however. Two tigers and a handsome T rex wearing a red bow tie were on the loose. Fortunately, we were assured that these beasts were kind, not predatory, so everyone was able to relax. We also had an adorable pussy cat and another sweet animal (presumed not to be dangerous), whose species will remain a mystery.

Quite a menagerie. Thank you, Roshan, for the lovely face painting!

When the food was cleared away, Ruth produced a small gift for Janet, and everyone was delighted to get one too. It is a tote bag with images of beautiful textile work by two of our members. As befits an organisation called the Cotton Tree, it is made of high quality organic cotton. Being organic, eating it might even enhance your health – but we recommend that you keep it as a forever bag and use it for your shopping.
